Derbyshire Dales District Council are running a Housing Needs Survey for the parishes of Tideswell, Litton (including Cressbrook) and Wheston during September.
The survey is to find out the extent of need for affordable housing in the area. Anyone in housing need can fill in the survey, but the District Council particularly wants to hear from:
– young people with connections to the area who are interested in setting up a home for the first time,
– those struggling in expensive privately-rented homes, and
– older people whose home doesn’t meet their medical needs or need to downsize.
If you have friends and family who had to move away from the area to find somewhere more affordable to live, please tell them about the survey as anyone with connections to the area can fill it in too.
The Housing Needs Survey will be used by the District Council and the Peak District National Park Authority (the local planning authority) to decide how many and what types of affordable homes are needed. The previous surveys, carried out in 2017 (Tideswell) and 2014 (Litton/Cressbrook), are out of date. Don’t forget to add your contact details to the survey form if you want to be kept in touch with opportunities for new affordable housing in Tideswell ward.
Paper copies of the survey will be delivered to all households in early September. It will also be on the District Council’s website. Additional paper copies of the survey can be picked up from Peak District Yarns (opposite The George) when they’re open on Thurs/Fri/Sat.
Tideswell and District Community Land Trust (TDCLT) are supporting the Housing Needs Survey. The average house price in the area is over £300,000, and renting is more than £850 a month. There has been no new social housing since 2005. TDCLT aims to facilitate and encourage more affordable housing in the area for families. It wants to help keep our communities thriving and help ensure that local facilities like schools, doctors, and businesses continue to prosper.
