Churches Together in Tideswell Lent Meetings this year will be taking a creative twist. Local artist Fiona Rogers, writer Suzanne Elvidge, and musician Steve Fisher will help us explore the powerful themes of Lent, Holy Week and Easter by inviting us into their worlds of words, images and harmony. Each session will take the form of a workshop with practical things to do; by Holy Week, group members will have had the opportunity to contribute to a shared reflection on the story of Holy Week and Easter. Pictures, words and music created by the group may be woven into a seasonal exhibition and shared worship services.
Fiona will help us use the materials and thoughts we bring to the sessions to make collage pictures which come together to make a group piece. (See below for further information.)
Suzanne will encourage us to find words to go with the art, or with other Holy Week themes.
Steve will lead us in exploring Holy Week hymns, and guide us in composing a group hymn which could be sung in one of this year’s services.
None of the workshops will call for previous experience or expertise in art, writing or music; just come along and have a go!
Venue: Fountain Square Church Vestry

Information from Fiona about the art workshops:
In the workshop we will be thinking of light and dark, sunset and sunrise, endings and beginnings, sadness and hope. We won’t be using religious imagery but will be thinking of other ways of expressing what the passion and the resurrection mean to us and how it makes us and feel. I will bring along ideas to inspire you – but please do bring your own as well.
And don’t be daunted. Although the subject matter is thoughtful, the workshop will be fun and I will be there to help anyone who feels a bit stuck.
Please bring:
Images and ideas that will inspire your work
Colourful used magazines for collage
An old paintbrush for glue
A pair of scissors for cutting paper (although tearing is better so don’t worry if you can’t find any)
An old yoghurt (or similar) pot for putting your glue in.
