Dear Resident and Business Owner I am writing to inform you about the Eroica Britannia cycling event which is coming to Derbyshire and Bakewell. The three day festival will take place at Bakewell Showground from 17th – 19th June and is a celebration of vintage cycling and local food and drink.
The culmination of the festival is a bike ride on 19th June which starts from Bakewell. The first riders will leave in waves from 6.00am with the last expected start being set for 10.30am. All of the riders will be on pre-1987 ‘heroic’ bikes wearing vintage clothing – the event, first held in Italy, has been described as the ‘most handsome bike ride in the World’ and is sure to be a fantastic spectacle.
In order to ensure both the safety of our riders and members of the public we have requested a road closure along the B6049 from Blackwell (Hollow O the Moor junction) to Litton Dale junction at south end of Tideswell. The road will be closed to all vehicular traffic between the hours 06:00-12:00 on the 19th June 2016. If your property / business / pub is located on the road closure then you will be allowed access to and from your premises. You will only be permitted to travel against the flow of cyclists. This means travelling in the Tideswell to Millers Dale direction. You will also need to drive incredibly slowly and carefully given the presence of thousands of cyclists. All other through traffic will be diverted.
We are absolutely committed to ensuring that any disruption for local households and businesses is kept to a minimum and would like to apologies in advance for any inconvenience.
