This month’s live and special events at Tideswell Cinema include the greatest of all romantic ballets, an opera that contains sex and violence, and a legendary concert with 70s rock band Queen.
First up is the Royal Ballet’s Giselle, live from the Royal Opera House on Wed April 6 at 7.15pm. Prepare for a love story involving betrayal, ethereal ghosts who dance men to death and a romantic but tragic end.
By contrast, the flamboyant Freddie Mercury fronts a breakthrough Queen concert recorded for live TV in 1975 at the Hammersmith Odeon. This screening, on Thur April 21 at 7pm, includes 16 classic Queen songs – among them the towering Bohemian Rhapsody – as well as documentary archive featuring interviews with all four band-members at the height of their fame.
Our final live event for April is Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor from the Royal Opera House on Mon April 25 at 7.15pm. Based on a tale by Sir Walter Scott, it tells of feuding Scottish families and a tragic heroine driven to madness. This production by Katie Mitchell includes scenes of sex and violence.
The opera and ballet are £15 (concessions £12.50), the Queen concert £10.
