Millers Dale and District WI met in Litton Village on Wednesday 8th January for their first meeting of 2014. Almost all the members were present plus some visitors and it was really good to see everyone.

Judy Cooper, our president, welcomed us all and then introduced our speaker Mrs Joyce Buxton who gave a most enjoyable talk, with beautiful photos, about her ‘Trek to Everest Base Camp’.

She had been diagnosed with a life threatening illness but due to the research that had been done at The Hallamshire, she was successfully diagnosed by use of a ‘cam pill’ and fully recovered. She then decided she would do something she had always wanted to do and so the trek to Everest Base Camp became a reality. We were all held spell-bound by her amazing journey and thought her to be an inspiring woman.

Refreshments were then served and this was followed by the business meeting. The Christmas lunch at The Sickleholme Golf Club had been a great success – a good end to 2013.

The members enjoyed catching up with each other and the meeting eventually closed at 2200.

The next meeting will be held in Litton Village Hall on Wednesday 12th. February; our speaker is Sandy Shaw talking ‘About Something from Nothing’.
