Poetry Competition

Congratulations and well done to the following winners of the Living History group poetry competition. First prize – Dave Greenan Joint 2nd prize – Phil Tricklebank & Wendy Delany Children’s – Millie Robinson

Thank you and well done to the above and to all who entered our competition. We all enjoyed an evening of ‘poetry reading’ cakes and refreshments at our chair’s house and after much deliberation came to the above decision.

Due to the amazing effort you have all put in, we have decided to produce a booklet of the poems. Each and every poem is special in its own right and a wonderful tribute to our village; you should all be very proud.

The following extract is from a poem entered by Mavis Sutton (nee Hibbert)

There’s an old market town My village, no less The place that is special, The place that is best It’s the place of my birth And the dearest on earth.

Come along to the coffee morning 7th September at Fountain Square when extracts from some of the other poems will be on display, along with more old photographs.

Out next meeting is Friday 13th September at Vanilla Kitchen 10 a.m in the parlour. All are welcome.
