The new season of Tideswell Cinema opens on Thursday 5th September with the highly acclaimed film ‘The Impossible’. Based on a real family’s horrific experience of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, it was released in the UK at the beginning of this year, and stars Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and new young actor Tom Holland. It was nominated for a huge array of awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actress, a Golden Globes nomination for Best Film, and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Director.
A British survivor of the tsunami wrote in The Guardian that the film was ‘beautifully accurate’, and the Hollywood Reporter wrote ‘The Impossible is one of the most emotionally realistic disaster movies in recent memory’.
The film will be shown at 7.30pm upstairs in The George. Our membership list is full, but Guest members are welcome at the performance (£4.75) to take any remaining seats from 7.15pm.
