Tideswell Community Managed Library – Latest News

The library now has twenty-one volunteers.  They show great commitment and enthusiasm.  The group has recently undergone training in operating the new county-wide online Library Management System, Axiell Spark. Early impressions are that this should be less problematic than the system it replaces.

From February 17th until March 17th (inclusive) survey response sheets will be available in the library for library users, and other interested individuals, regarding suggested changes to library opening hours.  Currently, the footfall on Saturday mornings is quite sparse and so we feel the following pattern of opening hours may attract more of the public.

Monday 2:00 – 5:00 (as at present)

Wednesday 10:00 – 12:00 (new session)

Friday 2:00 – 7:00 (as at present)

Saturday 10:00 – 12:00 (currently the library is open 9:30 – 1:00)

The change would mean an increase in opening hours from 11.5 to 12 and it would help to maintain the morale and enthusiasm of our volunteers. The result will be decided by a simple majority either for the suggested change or the retention of the existing pattern.

One of our volunteers is very keen to promote the home library delivery service. This is designed, for example, for those with mobility issues. It is run by D.C.C. but we, at Tideswell Library, may be able to act as a ‘go-between’ to set up such an arrangement for interested individuals. A computer is not required to access this service. More on this will follow.

PCSO Anthony Boswell will visit the library on the dates below.  The sessions will last from 10:00 until 11:00. This is an initiative to provide the public with an opportunity to raise law enforcement and security issues with the police. If these issues are of a confidential or sensitive nature, we have been told that this will be respected, and a suitable secure space provided.

Saturday 29th March – Saturday 26th April – Saturday 24th May – Saturday 21st June

At Tideswell Library we aim to nurture a love of books and to encourage young readers. From early March our display in the children’s area will focus on locating and choosing books. This will be interactive. Also, there will be a “Book Hunt” activity for children and their accompanying adults.
