THE SWIMMER (cert PG, 95mins)
Our first film of 2018 is a great, unique film made in 1968. Set in an affluent Connecticut suburb, Burt Lancaster plays Ned Merrill a middle-aged businessman who turns up one morning for a drink at the house of a couple of friends and announces that he is going to swim back to his own house across the valley using a string of swimming pools owned by his wealthy friends. Some pool owners are happy to see him – others dislike him. Its an epic and as in all epics the hero sets off on a journey, meets people – good and bad – and finds out about himself on the way – good and bad.
Doors open 7.30 for 8pm and the bar will be open for refreshments before and after the film. Membership of Cressbrook Film Club is £20 for the whole season with guest tickets available at £5-00 per film for adults and £3 for kids.
