Tideswell Cinema Live

Carmen as you’ve never seen her before, The Magic Flute, and King Lear live from the Globe for the first time – just some of the treats in September at Tideswell Cinema, upstairs at the George.

Carmen on the Lake, coming to us on Thur Sept 14 at 7pm, is a spectacular performance of Bizet’s classic opera filmed on Lake Constance in Bregenz, Austria. With a stage extending out onto the lake, this is a rare opportunity to see Carmen in such an awe-inspiring setting.

Next is Mozart’s glorious Magic Flute, live from the Royal Opera House on Wed Sept 20 at 7.15pm. David McVicar’s production transports us to a fantastical world of dancing animals, flying machines and starry skies, where the Queen of the Night’s coloratura fireworks contrast with lyrical love duets and folksy arias.

Our third treat for September is King Lear on Thur Sept 21 at 7.30pm. This is the first live broadcast from the open-air Globe Theatre in London, a replica of the 1599 playhouse where Shakespeare wrote and performed.  Lear is played by Kevin McNally, best-known as Joshamee Gibbs in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Looking ahead to Oct 3 we have La Boheme live from the Royal Opera House, and on Oct 5 a second chance to see Benedict Cumberbatch’s Hamlet, filmed at the National Theatre in 2015.

Carmen on the Lake is £15 (no concessions), Magic Flute is £15 (£12.50 concessions) and King Lear from the Globe £12.50 (no concessions).
