Come and Sing

Whilst Tideswell Singers enjoy their summer break, plans are already underway for the festive season – but we won’t mention the ‘C’-word yet! More details nearer the time!

Before that we have our annual ‘Come & Sing’ day when the village welcomes over a hundred singers to rehearse and perform a major choral in the magnificent Cathedral of the Peak. This year the chosen work is Haydn’s joyful Nelson Mass. The instrumentation with trumpets and drums gives a military feel, but the over-riding atmosphere is one of exuberance with glorious singing. As on pervious occasions, we will be joined by the Chamber Orchestra from University of Sheffield with student soloists.

Our previous Come & Sing days have attracted local people, as well as visitors from all over the country. Several people come every year to join us – and for many this is the only time they sing. Over the past five years, we have gained a reputation for holding excellent, enjoyable and friendly Come & Sing days for men and women of all ages and different levels of singing experience. Whether you are a beginning singer, or an experienced choir member, the day has plenty to offer for you. Why not come along and join us?
The performance at 6pm would give you the chance to be part of this choral experience if you choose not to come as a participant.

Tideswell Singers will be rehearsing the Nelson Mass over the next few weeks so that they will have the advantage of being familiar with the music and the confidence to lead the participants who will be joining us. If you have been wondering about joining the choir, this could be a good time to join this friendly group of singers – you will be made very welcome.

Rehearsals start again Wednesday 6 September and continue every Wednesday at 7:30pm in Litton Village Hall (Litton Church every second Wednesday of the month).
