Time matters less when walking but in June we did want to be in Cressbrook for the blessing of the wells. We ambled over the Raike, then to Grinlow and down to Wardlow Mires.
Unfortunately the walk leader had underestimated how long it would take to get to the destination and a route march ensued. One, unable to wait until two o’clock for lunch, trailed at a distance
munching a sandwich. Never had the seats on the village green looked so inviting. Bedraggled and hungry we dived into rucksacks for sustenance. The area filled up and the band could be heard.
Our recovery was surprisingly swift and we enjoyed the service. From the path by Top Cottages we set off for home at a more relaxed pace.
Cressbrook Band must have been on top form that day because they received an invitation to play at the same venue as Coldplay last month.
