TIDESWELL SURGERY
SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2017
Every surgery is required to have a Patient Participation Group. Our group meets every 2 months and is brought up to date with things happening which affect all patients. The group can be a link between patients and medical staff, can help the surgery with non- medical issues and looks into things like dementia awareness, support groups available for patients such as Parkinson’s support and similar initiatives aimed to help us all get the best from our surgery. We need more people to join this group to help us do more and raise awareness locally – can you spare about an hour every two months? If you wish to find out more or to volunteer to join us, please contact the surgery.
With the continuing pressure to reduce costs your help is also needed in small but significant ways – did you know that everyday items like paracetamol, costing 50p over the counter, cost iro £5 if you have them prescribed. Please, when ordering repeat prescriptions, don’t automatically reorder everything on your list – if you don’t need some of the items don’t request them. You can always re-order later and it saves stockpiling medication which will ultimately be wasted. Once again we would ask you to let us know if you can’t keep an appointment – better still sign up to System one online which enables you to make and cancel appointments easily, you can also use this to order repeat prescriptions which gives you greater control over what you request. Ask the surgery if you want more information.
In order to get the newsletter to as many patients as possible we want to continue to put it in Village Voice. The cost of this is approximately £40 per issue and we publish a newsletter quarterly -CAN YOU HELP BY SPONSORING AN EDITION? We will put your name on the newsletter to show our appreciation. Any company, group or individual who would like to sponsor one or more editions please contact Alan Thornton 01298 872301 – alan19@btinternet.com
CAR PARKING – We understand that some patients have difficulty parking at the surgery – if this is a problem for you please write to Dr Cox with your comments.
HEALTH CHECKS – These are carried out for people aged 40-74. A number of patients are invited to attend each month. It is a free general health check to cover blood pressure, BMI, lifestyle & finger prick cholesterol check.
FLU VACCINATIONS – We will be starting vaccinations later in the year and strongly recommend that you keep an eye out for clinics dates – remember that getting your vaccination at the surgery not only helps with surgery income but it also means that the clinical staff are fully aware of your medical history and can be sure that you are being properly treated, they can also be aware if there are any on going problems.
PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP – BAKEWELL
This is an informal group that meets on the first Friday in every month at Stanton Day Hospital between 3pm & 5pm. The group offers support, friendship and fun to patients, family, carers and friends. They have speakers, outings and conversations – tea and homemade cakes. If you would like to join, or just visit, you would be most welcome.
STROKE AWARENESS DAY
This was held at Bakewell Agricultural centre and was well attended by 180 people. Doctors and nurses were in attendance to take blood pressures and to advise and chat to those attending. It is hoped that this will become a regular event.
