Our film this month, screened by Tideswell Cinema, is a powerfully disturbing true-crime saga, ‘Foxcatcher’, one which won numerous award nominations, winning two Oscars for the outstanding performances by Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo and a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Drama), in 2014.
Mark Schultz and his brother Dave were both Olympic wrestling Gold Medal winners in the 1980s. The story revolves around Mark’s recruitment by American multi-millionaire John E du Pont to join Team Foxcatcher at his private wrestling training facility. Initially Dave declines to join his brother, for family reasons, but later takes up du Pont’s offer. Tensions arise, culminating eventually in a life being destroyed. The film also stars Channing Tatum and Vanessa Redgrave.
