Tideswell Cinema

Tideswell Cinema’s choice of film this month is the 1994 thriller, ‘Leon’, which was Luc Besson’s directorial debut. Described as ‘sad, funny, violent, incredibly moving’, it is set in New York, and is the story of a twelve year old girl, Mathilda, who is being hunted by a team of corrupt cops after she witnessed them gunning down her family. She is ‘rescued’ by Leon, whom she discovers is a hit-man, and she persuades him to help her avenge her family. The film stars Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman.

It will be shown at 7.30pm on Thursday 27th April upstairs in the George Inn. Guest members are welcome (£4), and the landlord will be happy to serve meals before the screening.

Saturday 6th May is the date of our next popular Double Bill, with meal. This time we have an African theme. The first film, ‘Timbuktu’ was nominated for an Oscar in 2015 in the Foreign Language category, and is set in Mali. A gritty drama, it shows how peaceful rural life can be turned upside down when confronted with jihadists. The second is ‘A United Kingdom’, the true story of the romance and marriage of Seretse Khama, king in his home Bechuanaland, and London office worker Ruth Williams, and the opposition they faced not only from family, but the might of the British and South African governments. Booking details will be on our website (www.tideswellcinema.com) in the next couple of weeks. (Places are limited.)
