Tideswell Cinema Live events

February is a bumper month at Tideswell Cinema, upstairs at the George Inn, with four live events, two film evenings and an encore.

First is the National Theatre’s new production of Amadeus, an award-winning Peter Shaffer play exploring the obsessive jealousy of composer Salieri for his young rival Mozart. The live screening (Thur Feb 2 at 7pm) is sold out, but you can still book for a recorded encore on Tue Feb 21 at 7pm.

Second we have Woolf Works, a critically acclaimed new work by the Royal Ballet’s resident choreographer Wayne McGregor, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s writings. It comes to us live from the Royal Opera House on Wed Feb 8 at 7.15pm.

The following week we’re back at the National Theatre for St Joan. Starring Gemma Arterton as Joan of Arc, George Bernard Shaw’s classic play depicts a woman with the transforming power of a revolutionary. The live screening is Thur Feb 16 at 7pm.

Next are a couple of films, Les Enfants du Paradis (voted “best French film ever made” by the French Film Academy) on Thur Feb 23, plus last year’s Oscar winner, Spotlight, on Mon Feb 27, both at 7.30pm.

And finally a ballet favourite, Sleeping Beauty, celebrating 70 years of the Royal Ballet’s landmark production of the fairy-tale, with music by Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa. The live screening is Tue Feb 28 at 7pm.

Plays are £10 (£7.50 for under-19s), ballets are £15 (£12.50 concessions).
