Buxton Soroptimists were proud to host the Midland East region “Away Day” at Eyam, the plague village. Region President, Anne Needham is a Buxton member.
Region matters were discussed before a talk about the story of Eyam , and the people of the village were compared with the people in Africa suffering from Ebola. During the 1660’s The Plague had reached Eyam, on a bale of cloth from London. The villagers agreed to cut themselves off from the rest of the world, to contain the disease. Soroptimist visitors walked around the village to see the “Plague Cottages ” and the church for themselves.
