We’d time to enjoy a coffee outside Millers Dale Church before a short service taken by Simon White in which one of our group did the reading. On a beautiful morning the words of the lovely hymn ‘ O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder ‘ had real immediacy as we knew that soon we’d be hearing birds singing sweetly in the trees and feeling the gentle breeze. Health and safety tips in the briefing prior to this parish boundary walk did not lack originality ! There were about thirty people including several young children and the pace was gentle. Orchids, red campion and violets bordered the lane to Litton Mill. The grassy area at the side was an ideal picnic spot. A game of pooh sticks was organised by Gillian and children weren’t the only participants. Then came the attractive stretch through Water-Cum-Jolly Dale. It was extremely hot on arrival at Cressbrook Mill but fortunately there was transport for those wishing to avoid the steep climb to the church. Fortified by tea and delicious homemade cakes there was a strong sense of fellowship during singing of the final hymns.
