Hangman Tales

It’s the day they abolish hanging, and the second-best hangman in England is pondering his future behind the bar of his pub in Oldham.

It doesn’t sound much like a comedy,  but Hangmen – the next National Theatre Live broadcast at Tideswell Cinema on Thur March 3 – is billed as “the most line-by-line funny show London has seen in years” (Daily Telegraph).

Starring David Morrissey, the play by Olivier and Academy award winner Martin McDonagh, was a sell-out at the Royal Court and transferred to the Wyndhams Theatre. It’s a sell-out in Tideswell too, but you can ask to be put on the waiting list for late returns.

Then on Monday March 21 at 7.15pm we present, live from the Royal Opera House, Boris Godunov, starring renowned Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel  and conducted by Antonio Pappano.

Mussorgsky’s only completed opera tells the story of the Tsar Boris Godunov who takes power through murdering the rightful heir, and then struggles with his conscience.

Finally, just a peek forward to Wed April 6, when we have live dance in the greatest of all Romantic ballets, Giselle, performed by the Royal Ballet.

The opera and ballet are £15 (concessions £12.50), the play £10 (£7.50 for young people under 19).
