Rain and Shine

‘Winter walks on wet days are not always enjoyable experiences’, wrote Sally Mosley recently and this aptly described our first walk of the year. It’s the only time we’ve stopped in a cemetery but we did need a hot drink and knew there was shelter in Litton. We didn’t linger as outer clothing was already wet. To cut the story short, we came home sharpish.

The forecast of a cloudy day was a bonus. We left the busy car park at Ladybower to take an unfamiliar track uphill not quite believing that there were signs of blue in the sky. From the top there was a good view of Kinder and Mam Tor from a different angle. The stop for refreshment this time was more appropriate and rounded off by a surprise piece of Christmas cake. After so many dreary days never had the effect of sunlight on water seemed so dazzling. We strolled round the reservoir surprised to see how many people were out in early January. At the end someone commented how cheerful everyone we’d passed had been. Actually there was one exception, a little boy who hadn’t quite mastered his new bicycle.

We’d welcome anyone who’d like to join our informal group for a walk this year.
