Update from the Wakes Team

Following another successful Wakes Week we are pleased to announce that we are looking for local associations to donate to. The villagers and visitors to the village were extremely generous and with our street collections alone reaching around £1500 we are in a strong position to donate to those in need and also start preparations for Wakes 2016. Please request in writing and give this to one of the team or email committee@tideswellwakes.info.

The whole team are always extremely grateful for the continued support we receive and I personally would like to thank those on the team and all those who help us to make Tideswell Wakes a success. We have had some amazing feedback and we are getting well known for our events and our amazing Carnival Day procession.

A big thanks to the RAF and the Battle of Britain Memorial flight team who have made our carnival day even more special over the last 2 years with the amazing Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane fly pasts. We know from feedback that this touched the hearts of many generations lucky enough to be in the village at that time.

We would also like to thank our Wakes Royalty and their parents who continue to fly the Tideswell flag at other carnivals throughout the summer. They have done us proud and over the last few years won some lovely prizes and contributed to ensuring this tradition remains part of our festivities.

Bernard O’ Sullivan should also be thanked for capturing our Wakes on film for the last two years. He puts in a huge amount of work during Wakes Week and for a newcomer he isn’t bad! There will be more updates on how you can order any wakes photos in due course.

So it is back to business for 2016 and time for our Annual General meeting. It would be great to see some of the village attending and volunteering a skill or talent! It is also a very useful opportunity to ask any questions you may have and make your Wakes Week requests. The meeting will be held on Thursday 5th November at The George (upstairs room).
