Stage on Screen at the George

Ballet, Broadway and Branagh are the highlights of this month’s live screenings brought to you by Tideswell Cinema upstairs at the George Inn.

First you can enjoy the acclaimed Cuban principal dancer Carlos Acosta who choreographs and stars in a new version of Carmen, based on Bizet’s opera, in an evening of four one-act ballets live from the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House. Starting at 7.15pm on Thur Nov 12 the programme also includes Viscera, Afternoon of a Faun and the Tchaikovsky pas de deux.

Then on Thur Nov 19 at 7pm we have the hit Broadway production of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, filmed on stage in New York by National Theatre Live in 2014. Starring award-winning actors James Franco and Chris O’Dowd, it is described as “riveting and powerful” by the Independent.

And for our final live treat this month we have Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale from the Garrick Theatre, starring Kenneth Branagh and Judi Dench, at 7.15pm on Thur Nov 26. This is the first of an exciting season of live screenings by the new Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company, to be followed next year by Romeo and Juliet and The Entertainer.
The ballet is £15 (concessions £12.50) and the plays £10.
