The children at school gave thanks for all the good things we have at the Harvest Festival at St John’s Church.
Each class had something to offer and all worked really hard to prepare. Class 1 gave us songs – for some of the little ones who had only been in school a few weeks it was their first time in church and they did really well singing in front of the whole school and an audience of parents and grandparents. Class 2 showed a short play – The Magic Stone, where a traveller tricks the hungry and selfish people of a village into sharing what they have. Suddenly they find they have enough for everyone! Class 3 read us the Harvest Poems they had written, full of images of tasty food and hard -working farmers. Class 4 had made gorgeous and colourful Harvest Banners which were then used to decorate the Church for the main Harvest Service. Class 5 treated us to a Harvest Poem.
It’s lovely to hear the children sing their Harvest Hymn – mine get better with every passing year! We also enjoyed a catchy song about fluffy cauliflowers and ‘broad beans sleeping in their blankety bed’. My kids hate broad beans, but they love this song! All the children sang really well and family members all joined in.
Everyone gave generously too, and all the contributions of food were donated to Buxton Night Stop and Food Bank. So Thank You for the Harvest, and Thank You for all the children, everyone at school and a lovely Harvest Festival.
