Miller’s Dale & District W.I. met in Litton Village Hall on Wednesday 11th March 2015 for their monthly meeting. Judy Cooper – our President -welcomed all The Members. The Business Meeting was concluded and included the final arrangements for our trip to Manchester Media City.
As this year is The W.I.’s centenary – Buckingham Palace has organised a Garden Party there for Tuesday 2nd June 2015 and invited a Representative from all W. I.’s to attend. All Representatives must be chosen by a ballot; our chosen Member has been selected.
After The Business Meeting finished, Judy Cooper then welcomed several visitors and introduced our Speaker for the evening. This was Dr. Robert Hunter and his talk was entitled “The History of The Coroner”. He gave a brilliant speech holding us spellbound as he moved from William The Conqueror to present times. He interspersed his talk with several amusing and serious anecdotes. All present were really inspired, asked many questions, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
Our next monthly meeting is on Wednesday 8th April and [please note] will be held in St. John’s Institute Tideswell; our usual venue is closed so a new floor can be laid. The Speaker that night will be Barbara Daykin MBE; her talk is entitled “Oh Mum, what have you done?”.
All friends, visitors and new Members are very welcomed to attend; if you require any further information please contact Judy Cooper on 01298 871191.
