Tideswell Singers were reminded of Christmas carol singing festivities on Wednesday’s rehearsal when representatives from Helen’s Trust accepted a cheque from the choir. Tideswell Singers chose Helen’s Trust as the charity for their carol singing collections last year in recognition of the support one of the choir members had been given during her husband’s final illness. The choir was interested to hear about Helen’s Trust’s work to help people in North Derbyshire who are caring for dear ones at the end of life in their own homes. The choir was asked to put its first date in the diary for this year’s carol singing activities!
Plans are well underway for our annual Come & Sing. Now an established popular event, eagerly anticipated by keen singers in the region, Tideswell Singers’ invitation this year is to ‘Come and Sing Mozart’s Requiem’ on 18 April 2015. This work was left incomplete when Mozart died at the young age of 35 and is surrounded by myths and intrigues. We are very fortunate that Mozart expert and Head of Music at the University of Sheffield, Prof Simon Keefe will give a short, illuminating talk entitled ‘Mozart’s Requiem and its Legends’ before the performance. We will be joined by the University of Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, so this promises to be a really stimulating musical event.
There is always an invitation to come along and find out if you would like to join us as a regular singer. There are no auditions and rehearsals are directed in a way that encourages everyone to sing to the best of their ability. Singers need no previous experience and although we generally sing from music scores, it is not necessary to be able to read music as you will be able to learn as you go along.
