Over Christmas, St John’s Church is supporting a Christian Aid project in Kenya, which is improving the situation for rural mothers and their newborn babies.
The statistics are horrific – every year 14,700 babies die on their first day of life, and every day 40 women die in childbirth or from pregnancy related complications. Less than half of all births are attended by a health professional, and hospitals and clinics are few and far between.
The aim is to train 1000 community health workers, introduce ambulance services for remote villages, and educate women, men and communities in antenatal and postnatal health.
As part of the project we are holding a special event. You are invited to a POP-UP KENYAN RESTAURANT Sunday 11th January, 7pm St John’s Institute Food Music Displays
Tickets are £5 (under 14s £2.50), and are available from Margaret Filer on 01298 871681, or are available after Sunday services at St John’s. All are welcome to join us in support of this important work.
