The Buxton Soroptimists enjoyed a thought provoking talk from Tideswell’s own Nicola Pepper this month.
Nicola told us the Ascention Trust and the work of the Street Pastors throughout the country. She is involved with the Chesterfield Street Pastor team. She takes part in their work in various locations where vulnerable young people may be.
Members were interested in the backpack she and other pastors wear which contain a fascinating mix of first aid equipment, thermal foil blankets, and such items as flip flops. When people are involved in drink and or drugs, particularly at an early age they are very vulnerable. The pastors work to make the environment safer for all residents in the location, and give a safe haven for young people.
Joy Bramley thanked Nicola on behalf of our club. An hour before the next business meeting, members will gather at Turner’s Memorial and take part in a candle lit vigil to support victims of domestic abuse.
