Taste Tideswell Community Garden

SAD NEWS – It was very sad to hear the School of Food had to close but the Community Garden is still the ‘Grow It’ part of Taste Tideswell – we won’t be able to supply garden produce to the School anymore, but we will continue to do everything else we do.

GOOD NEWS – We are looking forward to working with Bishop Pursglove School Gardening Club after half term. A really exciting new direction for the Garden.

ALLOTMENT PRIZE MONEY – Our £11 prize money went towards financing the new raised beds in the greenhouse, these are now in place and the glass will be fitted in early Spring, just in case we have a bad winter.

TIDESWELL LUNCHEON CLUB – At the beginning of the month there was stuffed marrow, runner beans and Nero di Toscana Kale on the menu and all from the Garden – including onions and herbs. It was really tasty and very well received. If anyone is interested or knows anyone who would be interested in finding out more about the Luncheon Club, please contact either Val Pinnegar (871083) or Dorothy Sellars (871575). It’s always good food and good company.

HARVEST FESTIVAL – a bit of the garden in the Parish Church with lots of produce from the garden, including the odd tractor and a scarecrow from the Food Festival. The scarecrow looked a bit weather beaten but so would we if we lived out in the garden permanently. We were able to provide a colourful display of produce including marrows, squashes, onions, garlic, herbs and kale.

OCTOBER WORK PARTY – It was a lovely sunny day and we got lots of tidying up done, but not too busy to stop for coffee and cakes. We can’t promise the sunshine on our 2 November Work Party but we can promise good company, coffee and cakes and some healthy exercise – Sunday at 11 am.

GARDEN BUDGET – something that needs serious thought as it was always the School of Food that helped us to maintain the Garden. We greatly appreciate all the many donations we are given and this does mean that our outgoings are minimal but we will still need some funds.

If you would like to become involved in any way with the garden please call Maureen (871542) or Judy (872408). And visit Tideswell Kitchen Garden Group Facebook Page to see how we get on throughout the year.
