The parish council has a few things going on at the present time and so I thought a short resume of a number of them would be useful and perhaps interesting as well.
Work has started in the cemetery on the Garden of Remembrance. Michael Marsden from Foolow will be undertaking the building work in line with our design consultation at the last Annual Parish Meeting. It is expected the work will be completed in two phases, this financial year hard landscaping and next year a planting scheme.
The overhanging tree in the cemetery ,which has caused some concern to relatives and visitors, has been removed . Also the Council will be clearing away waste soil and stones during November.
The tree survey has been completed. This focuses on the trees in the cemetery and on the village greens , and half the cost was paid for by the Peak Park. The survey states that “ ( I ) do not foresee any particularly unacceptable risks related to these trees. There is no work that needs to be undertaken to reduce any risks and there is no need for any concern “. This is very good news. The report is detailed and explains how the Council should go about maintaining a healthy stock of trees for future generations. The Council will be preparing a plan of action, based on this information, over the next few months.
On the topic of trees the Council has ordered three Norwegian Spruce Christmas trees , two at fifteen feet for Cressbrook and Litton Mill and one at eighteen feet for Litton. A big thank you to those adults and children who will be putting up the trees and decorating them for Christmas – have fun !
The Parish Council has been awarded £7,200 from the Heritage Lottery to fund a project to research and commemorate the impact of the First World War in Litton Parish . This will include research into the lives and deaths of the ten men who fought in the War and the installation of memorials in the Church and at the Memorial Playing Field. The ways in which groups and individuals can be involved with these and other projects will be circulated to residents. A very special thank you goes to Councillor Mike Renger who developed and submitted the successful bid.
Finally , the arrangements made by the Parish Council to enable residents to talk with staff from Derbyshire Dales District Council and Peak District Rural Housing Association, both of which are involved with the development of affordable housing in Litton, was well attended. As stated in the Parish Council’s notice about the proposed development , the Parish Council will hold a consultation meeting on the proposal, and it is expected this will take place in mid December. Information about the meeting will be circulated to residents nearer the time.
