Tideswell Cinema presents a feast of live ballet and opera broadcasts this month, plus an encore of Frankenstein with Benedict Cumberbatch around Halloween.
First we have Kenneth MacMillan’s masterful modern ballet Manon, performed by the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House on Thursday October 16 at 7pm. Based on a French classic novel, the story centres on Manon’s romantic elopement to escape a forced marriage, only to be tempted to become a rich man’s mistress in Paris.
Then we have Verdi’s searing tragic opera I Due Foscari, again from the Royal Opera House, starring the great Placido Domingo on Monday October 27 at 7pm. Domingo plays Foscari, a despairing father torn between love for his family and duty to a city riven by corruption. Tickets for each of these are £15 (£12.50 concessions).
Finally, on Thursday October 30 and Monday November 3 (both at 7pm) the National Theatre is re-broadcasting its sell-out production of Frankenstein, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. Highly recommended if you did not see it last year. Tickets £10.
