Parish Council Matters

Tideswell Parish Council met for the August meeting, with a huge agenda, which was discussed at length.

Planning matters were dealt with early in the meeting so that a member of the public might take part. The parish council has the right to comment on any planning applications in the area, but the final decision is made by the Peak District National Park Planning Authority.

Several items of correspondence from residents were received and acted upon. Most were very fulsome in their praise of the work done by the council. Residents are pleased with the progress made at Town Head.

Sadly, there has been little response from Police and Highways Authorities, on several matters.

The Council is pleased to sponsor the Allotment Association prize for “Best in show” again this year.

Other issues included the felling of trees. The council had received an anonymous letter also, but there is no facility for acting upon anonymous letters, and no reply can be given as the writer has not given their name. All normal correspondence is dealt with in confidentiality and with respect to the writer and content.

Councillor Rod Baraona has again spoken to Peter Foley from the district council about the Public Toilets , which will be taken over when the legal papers have been sorted… the end is in sight!

Plans for a special Remembrance Service this November are under way. Similarly, plans for Christmas lighting in Tideswell and Millers Dale were discussed. The council has earmarked £600 for the project, which will be a joint venture with other organisations and bodies in Tideswell.

The election or co-option of a councillor to replace Rob Puckett is in progress, and an advertisement to recruit a new parish clerk is to be published in the Peak Advertiser. Negotiations for an office for the parish council are well advanced, and the arrangements should be published shortly.

Please remember, this is your council and we welcome comments and attendance by members of the public. Our next meeting will be held in the Fountain Square Vestry on Monday 15th September 7.00pm.
