Tideswell Wakes 2014

What a cracking time was had as the village well and truly came out in force to show how we carnival up in Tidza!

The first weekend was well and truly kicked off by the wonderful Spitfire flypast and followed by the Hurricane flypast the following week over our Carnival Parade. Our thanks to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight team who made our weekends absolutely spectacular and something which added a certain something which will live in our memories for years.

During the course of the week it just got better and better and the turn out to the events was amazingly well supported. We doubled the number of people running the Inter Inns Run this year and as we ended this at the pub there was a fabulous turnout at the Open Mic Night. We aimed to have events for all ages and interests and we hope you enjoyed yourselves! The reports back from those Tidza diehards who were still partying into the next week reassured the team that we had delivered!

We do however feel that we owe some of you an apology. Following feedback we didn’t make it explicit this year how to enter your house/street or which category of competition. Although, the street competitions were very thoroughly judged by our independent volunteers we will ensure this is corrected for next year. In fact we must as so many residents are joining in to decorate streets and houses. It was mentioned to us on more than one occasion how wonderful the village looked so please keep up your hard work!

As always, we would like to extend our thanks to those who assisted to make the festivities a success. From offering cups of tea to encouraging words and digging deep during the week, this was much appreciated.

We would love to personally thank everyone here but as you can imagine this would be difficult so when we say thank you in person or do a shout out as we did at the finale please know that we genuinely mean it. We would like to thank the local businesses also for selling our programmes and for hosting events. We hope these events help you in return. Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle and balloon tickets, programmes and t-shirts and a special thank you to Nicky, Barry and team at The Horse and Jockey for running a raffle and kindly donating every penny of the £145.00 raised solely to Wakes.

We are also enormously grateful to Phil Stafford at Shop In Tideswell and The George Inn for sponsoring the Music Extravaganza. Thank you also to our extended Wakes Team who don’t attend meeting; we couldn’t do it without you.

The finances are being finalised. Only then will we know if we can make donations to local groups which is one of our main objectives. If you are a local association needing support, please get in touch.

A personal thank you from me must go to the Wakes Team; Nicky, Caroline, Polly, Jo, Sharon, Howie, Paul, Gillian, John, Andrew, Vicky and of course Mr Tidzy for their unstoppable enthusiasm and hard work during the year – you are all super stars!
