Do you volunteer?

Look around you next time you’re at an event in the village? Spot the volunteer! Sometimes they may be wearing a florescent vest (it is, sometimes, a perk of the job) but more often than not, they happily blend into the background, lending the odd hand here and there, for no other reason than they want to.

Many years ago I was walking across the Rec and overheard two women moaning about how the Wakes Committee that year had done something that had never been done before! Imagine. I kept quiet but did so want to suggest that they might like to step forward and help next year!

Tideswell is blessed with a healthy crop of clubs, societies and groups all of which couldn’t run without volunteers. Wakes, Cubs, brownies, the sports clubs, The Community Kitchen Garden and indeed this very organ your holding now, is entirely run by a team of volunteers.

If you’re reading this and don’t currently pop your head above the parapet, then why not give it a go. There is something for everyone in the village, make contact with the group (try tideswellonline.co.uk for details) and let them know you’re keen.

If everyone in the village gave an hour a week that would be over 1800 hours of voluntary work each week that this village would benefit from. Now wouldn’t that make this village even better than it is now?
