Glorious Singers

It was glorious occasion in all senses of the word – a glorious sound from over 100 singers in the glorious Cathedral of the Peak in a glorious choral work – Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi. Tideswell Singers hosted their third Come & Sing day on Saturday 10 May.

The main choir was joined by superb Sheffield based soloists Philippa Dand and Rosie Williamson from Albion – a choir which enjoys a close association with the village of Tideswell and Tideswell Singers.

Ad Hoc Baroque, a group of local musicians formed especially for the occasion accompanied throughout the day and added a solo item of a Sinfonia by Vivaldi to start the performance in the evening.

Tideswell Cubs and Scouts kept the participants supplied refreshments through the day and added a substantial sum to their target of raising £1,000 for funds.

The choir would like to thank the vicar and community of the parish of Tideswell for making this a very specially occasion.

Tideswell Singers can next be heard in a completely different environment when they sing in the Headstone tunnel on the Monsal trail on Sunday 22 June as part of L’Eroica vintage cycle event.

They will be in the more familiar surroundings of Tideswell Parish Church on Wednesday 26 June when they join Tideswell Community Players for a concert of Music and readings linked with the Living History project.
