Litton Parish Matters

I am pleased to report that we have appointed Ms Gillian Turner to the post of Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer to the Council. Following a well publicised advertisement the Council received seven applications for the post and interviewed three candidates. Gill was appointed from a very strong field,. She has a financial background and lives in Tideswell.

We have joined the Derbyshire County Council Winter Scheme on a one year trial. We’ll receive a ton of free salt for our bins and report to the DCC on snow conditions in the Parish. We hope our involvement will lead to a more responsive snow clearing service from the County. The ton of free salt will save £110 and supplement the two tons which the Parish Council buys.

Nicky Loveday of Litton Mill has kindly offered to take on the role of Snow Warden and she will soon be publicising information about how residents can make reports to her on snow conditions. Nicky will be supported by Councillors John Butler in Cressbrook, Gordon Rooke in Litton and Chris Thirtle in Litton Mill/Litton Slack .

A great deal of snow clearing in the Parish is done voluntarily by residents. Everyone is grateful to these people and in anticipation of another winter of snow the Parish Council extends a very warm thank you to you all.

However please use the salt sparingly and only in public places. A handful goes a very long way and buying more salt in the middle of the winter is a very expensive business for the Parish Council. For your private use salt is available to be purchased from Litton Shop.

Following discussions between the Council and Tree Officers of the Peak Park the Council has put into place arrangements to undertake a survey of trees on Council land, which includes the cemetery, and to draw up a programme of annual maintenance in order to ensure a healthy and safe stock of trees. The Peak Park tree officers will contribute to the survey and will advise annually on the work to be done. The Peak Park has made a generous fifty percent contribution to our costs this year and in future years the Council will set aside a budget for tree work. The Peak Park wish to continue to support us in the future but this depends on their budget.
