Oranges and Sunshine is Tideswell Cinema’s film choice for November, to be shown on Thursday 21st at 7.30pm in the George.
This 2010 film is based on the true story of Nottingham social worker Margaret Humphreys, who uncovered and brought to the world’s attention one of the most significant social scandals of recent times. Between the 1940s and 1967 hundreds of thousands of British children, some as young as 4 years, were forcibly separated from poor families and single mothers, and relocated in Australia and Canada. The deported children were promised oranges and sunshine, but instead they got hard labour and life in institutions.
The film is set in the 1980s and is a powerful and moving film.
Guest members are welcome (£4.75), and pre-film meals can be ordered at The George.
