On Monday 4th November, there is a rare opportunity to see Verdi’s opera ‘Les Vepres Siciliennes’, screened live from the performance at The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. It is an early performance, at 17.45 and people are requested to arrive by 17.15 in time to order interval drinks at the George Hotel venue. At the time of writing there are still seats available. Three days later on Thursday 7th, the National Theatre is screening Alan Bennet’s highly acclaimed play ‘The Habit of Art’, starring Richard Griffiths, Frances de la Tour and Alex Jennings. This is an imaginary meeting between Benjamin Britten and W H Auden, and is being shown by Tideswell Cinema as part of the National Theatre’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.
Just in to next month, on 3rd December, there will be a second opportunity to see ‘Frankenstein’ from the National, this time starring Jonny Lee Miller as Victor Frankenstein, and Benjamin Cumberbatch as his creation. Both actors won the coveted Olivier Award in 2012 for their performance.
