The Duke of Devonshire wants to Mine in our Garden!
Yes, we thought it was a joke too. Land Registry wrote to us this week with a notice that The Most Noble Peregrine Andrew Morny, 12th Duke of Devonshire wanted to maintain the right to extract minerals, or to hold a market or a sporting event on our land (maybe jackdaw shooting or cat hunting?) The official letter was titled “a unilateral notice” and written in a legal style leading to a great degree of worry. The Duke’s solicitors eventually left a phone message to say it was just a formality. A formality for what?
