Living History

A big thank you to those of you who have so far entered our Poetry Competition. Due to popular demand and the forthcoming ‘Litton Poetry Festival’ the closing date has been extended to the end of July. Some of our group will be present in the ‘big bus’ in Litton on Saturday 13th July, do come along and have a chat and try your hand at writing a poem.

Remember there are cash prizes for the winners.

Our plans to revamp the history box in Fountain Square are progressing nicely and we hope to make a start on the face lift in the next couple of months.

We had an enquiry at our stall at the recent food festival a lady from South Africa called Tess asked for our help in finding the family that her grandmother, mum and uncle lived with whilst they were evacuated from Manchester during the second world war. The Mawry family consisted of mum Margaret, and children Wendy and Brian and they lived with a farming family in the Tideswell area. Does anyone remember them and the family they stayed with? If so, please contact us and we can pass on the information.

We hope you are still listening to the the interview clips and checking out the photographs in Gratton Gardens.

Our next meeting is in Vanilla Kitchen, Friday 19th July 10 a.m. All welcome
