Good table manners are so important and at Bishop Pursglove we have been working hard to reward children who eat nicely, manipulate their cutlery well, are polite and make healthy choices at lunchtimes. We have been running a ‘Food for Thought’ initiative. Children are rewarded with table points for making good choices in the dinner hall and then on a Friday the table with the most points becomes âtable of the week.
This means a nice table cloth is put on the table; they are served first and have juice to drink in fancy cups too. As a really special treat they have an After Eight mint too! This is the real high point!
They then receive a ticket to go in the ‘Food for Thought’ raffle. We then draw, at random, 10 tickets each half term. Last week we took the first group to The George in Tideswell. We were very well looked after and the children all enjoyed their fabulous home made chicken fillets in batter, home cut chips and salad, followed with lovely red jelly. Mrs. Conacher and Mrs. Kilford accompanied the lucky winners with one of the governors. One member of the public commented on the fantastic behaviour and table manners of all the children there.
If you are a local business and would like to sponsor one of our ‘Food for Thought’ lunches – we would love to hear from you. The budget is £50 per lunch i.e.: £5 per head. If you could sponsor one it would be lovely if you could accompany us to the lunch. We will also include the sponsorship details in the school newsletters and Village Voice. Please ring school if you think you would like to help.
We look forward to seeing you out and about in the local community rewarding excellent lunchtime manners.
