Tidza Ramblers

Dry sunny bank holidays seem rare so we were lucky at the beginning of May. We were soon reminded of how spectacular the scenery is on the stretch of the Wye through Chee Dale. The stepping stones, tricky in wet conditions, were easy to cross. A yellow wagtail on the river held our attention. One of us is a member of Natural England and someone seeing the logo on her shirt, asked for help in identifying an oval shaped nest. It was probably home to a long tailed tit. No sunshine for the second walk but certainly an abundance of wild flowers. In Deep Dale the banks of cowslips were at their best. We also admired red campion, primroses, wood anemones, bluebells, wild pansies and orchids. In the afternoon we chatted with two men who asked for directions. ‘What a lovely bunch of ladies’, exclaimed one. He had told us that he was a salesman! Personally, I’m at an age when any compliment is welcome – real or imagined.

The walk on the 9th will probably be in the area of the Roaches.
