Slow Down

A cat was buried this weekend in Tideswell. She was a small, sociable black cat called Mabel. Not mine, but she was as friendly to me as she was to everybody. She was even friendly to dogs.

It looks as if Mabel must have been hit by a car, on Terrace Road. She was no great age and still quick on her feet.
Cats don’t always have the best of road sense. But their chances are greatly reduced by the speed at which people sometimes drive on Terrace Road. At 20 mph she might have stood a chance. People come up and down our road at 30 or even 40 mph. Why? How much time are you going to save in a few hundred yards by putting your foot down?
I shall miss Mabel coming to greet me as I walk up the road. Town Head will miss Mabel. Please drive carefully on Tideswell’s streets.
