Tideswell Cinema transports us into the world of espionage, with the choice of ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ as March’s film, to be shown on Wednesday 27th at 7.30pm, upstairs at The George.
This 2011 film is based on John le Carre’s novel, and is set in 1970s London, in the midst of the Cold War. It follows the hunt for a Soviet double-agent at the top of the British Secret Service. It seems the Soviets have turned the service inside out. ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ received three Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor for Gary Oldman’s performance as George Smiley. John Hurt and Colin Firth also star. Guest Members for the night are welcome, at a cost of £4.75. The committee apologises that we were unable to show ‘The Whistle Blower’ in January, as the screen broke as we were putting it up. We have decided to show it on our April date, Tuesday 30th April, and the final film of the season, still to be selected, will be shown during May.
