Tideswell Parish Council was delighted to host the 2026 Community Awards in May, celebrating the many individuals and groups who make such a positive difference across our village and parish.
The morning was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the incredible amount of voluntary work, kindness, dedication and community spirit that exists within Tideswell. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to submit nominations and everyone who attended to support the event. One of the loveliest parts of the awards is seeing just how many people quietly give their time to help others without ever seeking recognition.
This year’s awards recognised a wide range of contributions to village life.
Millie and Sam Barlow were recognised for their dedication to local young people through Scouts, including helping support fundraising efforts for the Scouts’ Switzerland trip.
Glenys Hughes was thanked for the tremendous fundraising work she has carried out over many years through her Macmillan coffee mornings and other charitable efforts.
Mandy Halsey received recognition for encouraging community spirit and creativity through groups including Knit and Natter, the Thursday arts group and contributions to village events and activities.

Maxine O’Connell was thanked for organising charitable fundraising events, including Breakfast with Santa activities supporting local causes.
Adrian Williams received recognition for the many years he carried out repair and maintenance work at the public toilets, often quietly working behind the scenes with no charge to keep facilities operating.
Christine and David Billups were recognised for their enthusiastic support of community events and for organising enjoyable seasonal activities for children while raising money for charity.
Kath Longden received special recognition for her outstanding work with Tideswell Community Hall, particularly her financial management, grant applications and commitment throughout extensive building works and improvements.

Carol Newton was recognised for her work with Limitless Knitting, the creation of Tidza Teds and her ongoing support for community events and Remembrance activities.
A group award was presented to the Tideswell Kitchen Garden Team for continuing to maintain and develop the garden while involving local people and encouraging children and families to engage with nature and gardening.

The final special recognition award of the morning was the Christopher Robinson Award, presented to Andrew Turner. Andrew was recognised for his tireless dedication to countless groups and events across the parish, including ten years as Chairman of the Wakes Committee during a particularly important anniversary year for Tideswell Wakes.
Congratulations once again to all recipients. Tideswell Parish Council is incredibly grateful to every person who gives their time, energy and care to make our community such a special place to live.
