There’s still time to put a float together with friends or to enter in one of the non-float categories.. Whether you have done one before or if it is your first time, please give it a go. Those of us who have taken part in previous years can guarantee it is one the most enjoyable ways of experiencing the day.
Carnival day will be Saturday 28th June, Taking part in Carnival is fun and exciting for people of all ages. It would be wonderful to see new people and groups enter this year.
Building a carnival float or putting a fancy dress theme together does not have to be complicated or expensive.
Wakes Music Quiz – April 2025
A big thank you to all who took part and contributed to the Wakes Music Quiz night held on the 26th April 2025.
We made an amazing £726 after costs which will go towards the running of Tideswell Wakes. Our costs are going up all the time so this generosity from the good people of Tideswell is incredibly helpful in helping us to continue and grow our fantastic festivities.
The final total includes a very generous donation back to Wakes of the winning teams prize money so thank you to the winning team “The Hues Corporation”.
It was a very close call at the top with the winning team being given a close run by the 2nd & 3rd placed teams “Tideswell Walking and Trekking Society” & “Where’s Flinty” respectively.
Someone has to come last unfortunately and this year’s wooden spoon was awarded to “Quiz Team Aguilera”.
We would also like to thank Holdsworth for the donation of food for the night, the Community Hall for the loan of their lovely venue, The Cherry Tree for helping sort out the large quantity of bread rolls required, Elliot’s Fish & Chips for sorting out the chips in a super efficient and budget conscious manner and the other committee members for helping with organisation and prep. Lastly we would like to thank David Wain for giving his evening up once again for a worthy cause and helping us run and deliver the entertainment.
With thanks to the good people of Tideswell and District,
Marshalling
If you can help and haven’t yet signed up please email us on mike-smart@hotmail.co.uk
Last year’s briefings were a lot better, so we will be holding similar sessions again this year in the weeks leading up to Wakes Week. Venue to be confirmed.
As last year, Marshalling points that are more isolated than others will be manned by more than one marshal, and all Torchlight Marshals will be in pairs.
For Big Saturday we will be keeping the main road through the village closed for the duration of the parade. This will make the parade safer for all participants and spectators. Additional marshals will be ‘floating’ along the main road for added safety, and all cars will have had a notice on their windscreens.
Please let me know at which events you can Marshal: Inter-Inns Run, Carnival Parade and Torchlight Procession. Please pass the word around to friends and family and give my email address: mike-smart@hotmail.co.uk
Many thanks,
Mike
