A Housing Needs survey is due later this year to gather evidence about housing requirements in the area.
The survey, by Derbyshire Dales District Council and supported by Tideswell Parish Council, will be seeking views in a questionnaire delivered to every household in early September. The survey is also supported by the newly formed Tideswell and District Community Land Trust.
Those with connections to Tideswell, who need housing and would like to move back to the area can also complete the survey, which will be both printed and available online. We all know people who had to move away from Tideswell to find somewhere more affordable to live. Please let them know about the survey. It is aimed at discovering whether / how much affordable housing is needed here.
The Housing Needs Survey will be used by the District Council and the Peak District National Park (the local planning authority) to decide how many and what types affordable homes are needed in the ward. The last survey was conducted in 2017 and is out of date.
Tideswell and District Community Land Trust, recently formed by a group of local people, is looking for more members. You might have seen the stall and filled in a form at the Food Festival. It hopes to facilitate and encourage more affordable housing in the area for families. It wants to help keep our communities thriving and help ensure that local facilities like schools, doctors, and businesses continue to prosper.
Community land trusts (CLTs) are community led organisations, run by ordinary people, owning land and developing affordable homes for local people. They also can help create other things important to a community, like community enterprises, or workspaces. CLTs are long-term stewards of land and assets. They ensure that homes remain genuinely affordable – based on what people actually earn in the area – not just for now, but for every future occupier. Community run and not-for-profit, there are over 300 community land trusts around the UK and there are successful examples nearby in Derbyshire.
