From Revd. Carole and Revd. Fiona
The churches in Tideswell, and surrounding areas, have recently seen new clergy arriving to serve the churches and community. Here’s a few words of introduction from each;
Revd Fiona Kouble – as we moved into the vicarage in Tideswell – just about the first thing to pop through the letter box was the first edition of the Village Voice a brand new ( well a newly revamped) endeavour at sharing the news and the stories in the village, and there on page 15 was the “news” that you were about to have a new vicar – And here I am!!
Just other 2 months later and we are ( I am here with my husband Roland) delighted to be here and praying that over the coming months we can share good news that the warmth inside the church building will be as warm as the welcome we’ve received! But in all seriousness there is much of what I am called to do here that matches the purposes of this auguste publication – to promote knowledge and share the news – of course for me I simply want to come and live here amongst you and pray that as I do so that we all discover more about the God who inspired the local community to build such an amazing building hundreds of years ago. My prayers are that as we encounter life in all it’s richness, it’s joys and sorrows – that there are opportunities to encounter God who loves you and wants you discover life in all it’s abundance ( that’s Jesus speaking there – check out John chapter 10, verse10).
I love story telling and the best stories are the ones that get us wondering about life, creation and perhaps enlighten us a little about how to live better…
I am called to look after Tidza and also many of the surrounding villages and 3 other churches – Christ Church Litton, St John the Evangelist, Cressbrook, St Margaret of Antioch in Wormhill. You might have noticed a new Facebook Page – Tideswell Benefice – a place to share the news from and for all 4 churches and the communities that we serve.. have a look and “like”! I am also delighted to be sharing this journey with the Carole and the Fountain Square Church family!
Roland and I have moved over from Ardsley and Darfield in Barnsley – where I had been the local vicar for the last 12 years, we share our lives with Cassie our somewhat manic black scruff, 2 hens, 1 gecko and when you are reading this we will have just welcomed a young feline family– Peach and her tiny new kitten – Mango – so expect to see me with little scratches on my arms! I love being creative – but have few traditional skills in this area – as anyone at Knit and Natter will be able to testify – but please do keep an eye open for what’s happening and feel free to come along and join us.
Over the coming months I am looking forward to joining in with the Well Dressings, engaging with our schools, getting the noticeboards sorted out, exploring how we can use our buildings for worship and more – and simply being alongside you all as I discover more about the stories of our churches and most importantly these communities. Expect to see more about Messy Spaces, teddy bears picnics, Space to Be and Cake – always cake!
And as we journey together may the Lord bless us and keep us!
PS please forgive me if I forget your name in the next few months – I am often racking my brain for the right name for the right face.
Fiona
Revd Carole Marsden – Hello. I moved to Calver with my family two years ago to work at Cliff College and began attending services in Tideswell. Tideswell itself soon felt like home after food festivals, helping out the brass band, visiting the school, attending services at the church and discovering the chippy! I’m delighted to have been inducted to serve Fountain Square Church as their minister. I will be leading services, visiting, leading assemblies at the school and helping the church serve the community in a number of different ways. It was a privilege to bless the crib and turn on the lights for Tideswell over the past few years. Something I’d never done before coming to Tideswell. I have been a minister since 2001 in a number of different settings from Stockport to Cumbria and down to Shrewsbury. Each has been different, and I look forward to how my time in Tideswell will be different again, working with Fountain Square, the wider community, Revd Fiona and St Johns. God bless.
