Annual General Meetings are not usually events which generate huge amounts of excitement, or turnout. Nevertheless the Hope Valley Climate Action supporters’ AGM, held on the 7th April at the Sir William in Grindleford, attracted a good turnout. After the formalities – presentation of the annual report and accounts – we watched a film, ACTionism, about a young woman’s engagement with the climate crisis, finding like minded people to work with, and then a way in which she herself could respond.
This was followed by discussions about how this relates to the situation locally, facilitated by Sophie Hunter of Imagine Hope, and what lessons there are for us. The HVCA Trustees will be taking these ideas forward.
Following this, at the Trustees’ AGM (AGMs are such fun, we have two!), I stood down as Chair, with Davina Ription (of Eyam) and Sarah Roberts (of Hathersage) being elected as co-chairs in my place. After five years, it is time for new leadership.
Other ‘climate active’ groups
We are aware that there are other groups within the Hope Valley that are addressing the climate crisis, either directly or indirectly, through activities such as tree planting or promoting renewable energy generation. Although we know of, and are in touch with, some, we are aware that we don’t know what we don’t know. We would like to compile an inventory of all such groups, and to that end if any readers of this know of any such group we would be grateful if you could email hopevalleyclimateaction@gmail.com to let us know about your existence, and what you do. Even if you think we may already know, we may not, so if in doubt, please be in touch.
Hope Valley Climate Action continues to work to raise awareness, take action locally and advocating for the policies necessary to mitigate climate damage and adapt to the changes that are inevitable. You can find out more about what we are up to and sign up to our newsletter via our website, www.hopevalleyclimateaction.org.uk.
