Wakes June 2017

Tideswell Wakes is such an important part of the Village calendar and we want to involve everyone!

Please help us to do this by showing your support in any way you can.

Take part in the Grand Wakes Raffle – 40p per ticket or £2.00 per book of 5 tickets available from Peaches, Kays, Horse and Jockey, The Star and George Inn. (See the website for full details and a list of the amazing prizes www.tideswellwakes.info

New merchandise for Wakes 2017 are our Tidza Wakes Mugs and Pens which make perfect gifts or keepsakes; available to buy from the Wakes Stall. We also have a stock of Children’s T-Shirts.

We’re really hoping many of you have already caught the Tidza Wakes ‘bug’ and are planning house or street decorations, fancy dress costume or the theme of your float for the Carnival Parade! As with everything that the Wakes Committee is organising, our main aim is to make it enjoyable and fun but also safe for everyone involved or spectating, particularly at the highlight of Wakes Week: the Carnival Parade on Saturday 24th June which relies on brightly decorated floats, fancy dress costumes, musical accompaniment and Bands to give it the WOW factor.

So get thinking about your House and Street decoration ideas and Carnival costumes! Our theme this year is ‘The Jungle’, you can either join in with our theme or of course do your own theme.

We need everyone who wishes to enter a float in the Parade to register with us before 5pm on Friday 23rd June. To register your float, simply go to the Wakes Stall during the week, see Andrew or see any Committee member. Please note: We are not able to insure vehicle/float owners against a motor accident that occurs during the Parade. Whilst we agree that a motor accident is an unlikely event and our Public Liability insurance will cover many other types of accidents or damage, we will need you to contact your vehicle insurer and inform them that you intend to use the vehicle as a float, to ensure you have the correct cover on Saturday 24th June.

**If you intend to enter a Cab into the Parade you also need to register with us by 5pm on 23rd June. Cab drivers please note: under no circumstances will it be acceptable for people to sit or stand on the outside of your Cab during the Parade. Any Cabs failing to comply may be asked to leave the Parade.

As you know, Wakes Week just couldn’t happen without a team of willing and reliable volunteers who help us put on enjoyable, fun, but above all safe events. Volunteer marshals are required for all main events as we usually need a minimum of 12 to 15 marshals. Marshals are generally only required for a maximum of two hours at a time. Due to the nature of the role, we usually only accept people aged 18 years or over, but if you are nearly 18 years of age and wish to volunteer, please speak to a member of the Committee. If you are willing to put your name forward as a marshal for one or more Wakes Week events, please contact Jo Bothamley by 3rd June at jobot79@icloud.com or phone/text on 07730 043646.

Don’t forget to buy your Wakes Programme; they will be on sale from early June at the bargain price of just £2.00!

And finally on behalf of the Tideswell Wakes Festivities Committee we wish you all a very Happy Wakes Week – let’s make 2017 a year to remember (and don’t forget … WE ❤ TIDZA WAKES!!)
