Kathryn Rogers, Nutritionist, of “Fork Provoking ” spoke to members of the High Peak Diabetic self Help group about the nutritional benefits of many different food items. She spoke about the causes of dementia and gave some suggestions of how healthy life choices may help to delay the onset. It was interesting to learn that some of the plant foods which we eat nowadays have themselves been modified because they have been ” protected ” by insecticides and fertilizers. In the past, these plants have developed immunity to disease, which property might well have been involved in healthy results in the people who ate them. She gave some encouraging facts from the Alzheimers Society, about their research. The High Peak Diabetic SHG meets every month at the Community Room, Buxton Fire Station. There is a range of talks, and new members are always welcome.
